Hawkhirst in Northumberland
2022 saw a return to our annual Summer Camp, held this year up by Kielder Water in Northumberland.
Scouts and Explorer Scouts took part in a busy week of activities which included walking along sections of Hadrian’s Wall plus Water Activities including Paddle boarding, Canoeing, Raft Building and Bell Boating.
Back on or should we say ‘above’ dry land, there were sessions abseiling, crate stacking, Jacobs ladder and orienteering. Plenty of accuracy for the archery, and lots of puzzles to solve to keep everyone’s minds busy!
Other visits off site to a Bird of Prey centre nearby where everyone got hands on! and a day out in Newcastle where we also got to see the Angel of the North close up!
One of the downsides were the Midges which tried their best to annoy us all! The wise ones used nets and full cover clothing!!
Other wonders were only seen around midnight…. The stars shine bright because Kielder is a ‘Dark Sky’ location and wow!
